NEW YORK – Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính on September 22 met with Mayor of New York Eric Adams, during which he affirmed Việt Nam attached importance to its cooperation with the US city, and would ensure interests for US and New York investors in the Southeast Asian country.
PM Chính, who has been in the US to attend the high-level week of the UN General Assembly’s 78th session, said that the establishment of comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries would create new opportunities for more practical and extensive cooperation.
He expressed satisfaction with the strong and practical development steps in the collaboration between New York and Vietnamese agencies and localities, including in education and training as over 1,500 Vietnamese students are currently studying at universities in New York state.
The PM took this occasion to thank the city’s administration for caring for the Vietnamese community, adding that there remains ample room to boost bilateral cooperation, particularly in economics, trade, people-to-people exchanges, science and technology, and innovation.
Agreeing with the Prime Minister’s opinions, Adams asserted that New York City valued and was willing to further strengthen the friendship and effective and practical cooperation with Việt Nam, thus contributing more actively to the overall development of the two countries’ relations as well as its relationship with HCM City with which it had just signed the minutes on the establishment of friendship and cooperation, especially in the fields of innovation, environmental protection, and youth exchanges.
He confirmed that there would be measures to support HCM City, contributing to turning it into a strong financial centre in the region and the world.
On the same day, the Vietnamese Government leader rang the bell to open a trading session at the Nasdaq Stock Market, and met with its leading officials and representatives from several businesses introduced by Nasdaq.
He expressed his hope that Nasdaq would intensify collaboration with the State Securities Commission of Việt Nam and other relevant agencies on the basis of mutual benefit, for the practical benefits of the two countries’ people, helping to maintain peace, stability, cooperation and sustainable development in the region and the world.
Việt Nam would create the most favourable conditions for investors through the implementation of three strategic breakthroughs of perfecting institutions, mechanisms and policies, developing modern and comprehensive infrastructure, and training high-quality human resources; speeding up administrative reform; protecting the legal and legitimate rights and interests of investors, and helping them reduce costs, increase competitiveness, and operate effectively and sustainably.
At the meeting, PM Chính also answered questions from leaders of participating enterprises on policies to encourage the development of science and technology in finance, land use, and investment procedures, and encourage foreign businesses to facilitate Vietnamese firms’ participation in the supply chain.
Regarding policies on tourism development, he said that Việt Nam was paying attention to developing this field in association with the development of culture, and the application of new technologies.
Also on this occasion, Nasdaq and the State Securities Commission of Việt Nam signed a letter of intent to continue promoting an increasingly close, effective and sustainable relationship between the two sides.

CandyKisses: UN Secretary-General describes Iraq as a bridge between the countries of the region
Baghdad – Iraq Today:
The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, stressed Iraq’s pivotal role in adopting a policy of dialogue and bringing different points of view closer, describing it as a bridge for communication and rapprochement between the countries of the region, stressing his support for the federal government headed by Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani.
The Prime Minister’s Information Office said that Al-Sudani “met with the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, at the organization’s headquarters in New York, on the sidelines of the 78th meetings of the United Nations General Assembly.”
The statement added that “the meeting reviewed Iraq’s relations with the United Nations and its institutions in various fields, strengthening its efforts on many priority issues and files, and mechanisms for continuous coordination with UN institutions in implementing development and humanitarian programs and projects in a number of Iraqi cities.”
The Prime Minister praised, according to the statement, “the role of the United Nations and its institutions in supporting Iraq, and its efforts in promoting stability and societal peace,” noting “the visit of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Baghdad last March, which constituted a turning point towards upgrading the level of cooperation, and an occasion to stimulate UN action in Iraq.”
Al-Sudani stressed “constructive cooperation with the organization to implement the priorities of the government program, with regard to programs to combat poverty, and find remedies to confront drought and desertification and mitigate their effects.”
For his part, the Secretary-General of the United Nations affirmed his “support for the government’s efforts in implementing its development programs and plans,” pointing to “Iraq’s pivotal role, and its adoption of a policy of dialogue and convergence of different points of view, as a bridge of communication and rapprochement between the countries of the region.”
Guterres expressed “the support of the United Nations and its support for Iraq’s call for international cooperation to face the serious environmental challenges and the effects of drought and climate change in the region and the world.”
It is noteworthy that the Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, gave a detailed speech earlier, at the United Nations General Assembly, in which he stressed Iraq’s keenness to build an independent and balanced foreign policy aimed at cooperation and based on bringing together views and commonalities.
Frank26 Keep a very close, close eye on your dinars. Don’t let them out of your site. If a bank says to you we’re going to send them to another bank so they can be inspected and all of that, no thank you. I’m not going to let my dinars out of my sight. What if someone steals them in route to wherever you’re sending them. What if there’s an accident and they burn up? ‘Well, we’ll replace them.’ No you won’t…Be very careful who you trust, who you put your faith in.
Frank26 Question: “Do you think the VND will be close in value to the dinar…?” Not close to the same value, no. The Middle East has incredible power through their resources…If I was to see the Vietnamese currency go up in value I would see their exchange rate going up…to $0.05 to $0.10. You may say, ‘What? That’s it?’ If you have some of their money that’s a major windfall. They could take it up more. Vietnam is slowly growing up. They’re getting some feathers on those wings but I don’t think they’ll ever leave the nest of China…
